Desiree Perez Does Not Need To “Step Up” Because She Is Already At The Top
Desiree Perez, Chief Operating Officer of Roc Nation, finds herself in the spotlight once again. However, she is not in the spotlight because of her accomplishments as one of the powerful executives in the music industry, but because of a statement made by the president of the Recording Academy Neil Portnow. Portnow stated that women in this industry need to “step up” if they have hopes of advancing their music career.
Desiree Perez, with other top women music executives, sent a letter to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences board of trustees. In the letter, they outlined the problems that the academy is facing as well as calling for more transparency. They continued to state that the comments made by Portnow prove that the academy is out of touch with what is going on around it.Perez is the woman behind many women and men in the industry.
