George Soros Donates Many Billions To Achieve Open Societies

After George Soros established his Open Society Foundation and began to use it to work for political change in many countries, including the United States, he began running into opposition. Paying for black South African students to attend college wasn’t too controversial, and soon the white government of South Africa repealed apartheid and Nelson Mandela was elected president. And only the communist governments of the Soviet Bloc objected to him funding the dissident groups that eventually overthrew those very same governments.

But when groups he backed became politically active in other countries, they created controversy. According to the New York Times, Soros has donated $18 billion to the Open Society Foundation. That’s the largest donation by someone to a charity. It makes the Open Society Foundation second in size only to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The OSF is active in 120 countries, promoting its vision of democracy, justice and human rights. Some of those ideals are not popular in some of those countries. And some people define those concepts in different ways than Soros and the OSF does.

In the United States, some of the positions of the OSF on certain controversial issues have caused various conservatives to identify Soros as a liberal using his wealth and connections to influence the country. According to an article in Inside Philanthropy, the OSF has more influence on the world than the Ford Foundation. It maintains many small local offices, including many across Africa.

Soros also gets targeted in Europe, especially for his work on behalf of Syrian refugees. He strongly believes European countries should accept and integrate them. But that’s not the only issue. When people in Romania protested against government corruption, a TV station claimed Soros paid the protestors, even the dogs. It shows how Soros makes a good scapegoat for governments to blame.

According to Foreign Policy, Hungary’s current government brands Soros a traitor for his advocacy of open borders to let in Syrian refugees. After the downfall of communism, Soros set up institutions in Central and Eastern Europe to help guide their transition from communism to democratic open societies. He sent many people from Romania to other countries on grants so they could learn about liberal ideas they had never been exposed to before.

After the downfall of communism, Soros set up institutions in Central and Eastern Europe to help guide their transition from communism to democratic open societies. He funded many nongovernmental organizations that seemed to be making progress in creating the liberal, civic society Soros wanted. He made progress against authoritarian governments. In Georgia, many of his groups supported the Rose Revolution that led to the end of Eduard Shevardnadze, and Soros paid for people to monitor the election.

George Soros: Overcoming Demonization

It’s not strange to hear political opposites demonizing each other. That’s just the way politics work these days. Unfortunately, there are people who just get caught in the middle of those wars of words while trying to do something good for the world. George Soros is one such man.

He’s never really done anything bad; he’s just hated by a lot of right wing supporters. Over the years, many of George Soros’s opponents have been right wing conspiracy theorists. According to them, Mr. Soros is a busy man. In a recent JPost article, the far-right’s side of the story is explained.

According to them, George Soros is deliberately trying to destroy their world. Because he’s supported Black Lives Matter and Antifa, he’s an evil man with hatred in heart. He apparently set up the Colin Kaepernick NFL protest and the Women’s March. They’ve even accused him of hiring women to falsely accuse Republican candidates of sexual assault.

Most of their claims are supported by two past events in Soros’s career. First, in 1992, he made a billion dollars by shorting the British pound like no one else. That created world of conspiracies, which were later supported by his attempt to prevent George W. Bush from being reelected.

George Soros has supported the many groups and movements mentioned in the conspiracy theories. He’s supported numerous organizations and movements over the past 30-plus years. It was that long ago that he founded Open Society. Over the years, he’s slowly donated $800 to $900 million to his foundation every year.

Now, the NY Times is reporting that his donations have amounted to $18 billion. His donations made Open Society the second biggest philanthropic organization in the nation. Honestly, it should be considered among one of the best philanthropic organizations in the world.

Open Society operates in more than 120 countries, helping wherever they can. Lately, the organization’s been focused on the United States. For years, hatred in America has grown out of control. There are too many groups being attacked on a regular basis. Open Society is trying to stop all of the abuse.

In 2014, Open Society helped fund treatment center during the Ebola outbreak in America. They’ve also been supporting the LGBT community and female activists fighting for equal pay. It’s an organizations that reaches out to just about anyone trying to do the right thing.
