In 2003, Scott Rocklage joined 5AM as a venture partner. A year later, he became the managing partner of the company. Notably, Dr. Scott has more than 30 years of experience in healthcare management. The executive posited that the name 5AM entails that the company is in its early stages of operations.
Dr. Rocklage asserts that he does not have a typical day. In some days, he spends time studying new lessons on life science. In other days, he works closely with the company’s management team while in others he prepares and attends board meetings.
Dr. Scott posits that he brings ideas to life by working closely with physicians, scientists, entrepreneurs and business-executives to help in developing potential medicines to treat different medical needs. Rocklage posits that the trend that excites him is the explosive growth in targeting specific genotypes or mutations to treat cancer.

In addition, he was the chief executive officer and president of Nycomed Salutar. At Salutar and Catalytica, he held R& D positions. Moreover, he served as the chairperson of the board of Relypsa and Novira. Presently, Dr. Rocklage is the chairperson of Epirus, Cidara, Kinestral, Pulmatrix and Rennovia.
Previously, he was the executive chairperson of Semprus, Miikana and IIypsa. Dr. Scott is an alumnus of the renowned University of California, Berkeley where he graduated with a B.S. in chemistry. Notably, Rocklage holds a PhD in chemistry from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
While at MIT, Dr. Scott conducted his research in Richard Schrock’s laboratory. Over the years, he has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications. He has also invented and co-invented more than 30 patents. Presently, he is based in Boston.
